Specialized Services for Children and Youth (SSCY) “is an alliance of families, community agencies, regional health authorities, and government that provides specialized community‐based services for children and youth to support them in reaching their full potential. Manitoba Adolescent Treatment Centre

The Manitoba Adolescent Treatment Center (MATC) “provides a range of mental health services to children and adolescents who experience psychiatric and/or emotional disorders” (http://www.matc.ca/services.html).

One service among others MATC offers is the Rural & Northern Telehealth Service. “The Rural and Northern Telehealth Service (RNTS) provides mental health services via telehealth to targeted First Nations communities in northern Manitoba …  The service works with children & adolescents between the ages of 5 to 18 years who are experiencing emotional difficulties”(http://www.matc.ca/services-rnts.html).

Palliative Care in Manitoba

A request to have the Pediatric Palliative Care Team involved in the care of a child here in Manitoba needs to be made by a health care provider.

  • Urgent referrals can be made by calling HSC Paging at 204-787-2071 and asking for Pediatric Palliative Care.
  • Non-urgent referrals can be sent to the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Palliative Care Program by faxing: 204-237-9162.

Children’s Hospital Acute Pain Service

The Children’s Hospital Acute Pain Service (APS) is responsible for helping to manage unique pain experiences for children. The team is made up of pediatric anesthesiologists and two specialized nurses.   From babies undergoing major surgery to teenagers facing complex medical therapy for cancer – the APS team uses the latest medications, therapies, and specialized treatments to help manage and support patients admitted to Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg and their families.
