About this Blog

If you are growing up while also learning to navigate life with chronic pain, we have something in common. I live with chronic pain, and like many others, I wondered if other youth were feeling or experiencing similar things as I was. I wished I could hear from someone who knew what I was going through. No matter how hard I tried, I never really found what I was looking for. In an effort to bridge the gap of youth perspective on chronic pain, this blog series “Painfully Aware”, is dedicated to our unique experiences.

In each post, I will share my thoughts and feelings as a young person living with chronic pain. I know what it’s like to feel misunderstood in most rooms. I hope that I can show other youth that they are not alone.

Even though our physical experiences of pain may be different, the ways it affects us can be quite similar.

It is important to remember that not everything I say will apply to you, and that is okay. I will share my personal thoughts, however I acknowledge that I do not speak for everyone. I encourage you to take what sticks with you, and leave what doesn’t.

Throughout the blog series, I will invite you to explore some of the ways I have experienced, adapted to, and even learned from life with pain. I hope that sharing what I have learned and how far I have come, can bring hope, validation, and peace of mind to others. I will also do my best to offer ideas for how others can better support the needs of youth who live with pain.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in, I invite you to follow along with me! As you read, I encourage you to let me know what you think by completing a short survey or sharing your views via https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DNHBQ6R. It is time for our voices to be heard.
